Kawasaki Ninja 300 Green
Reduction in the model’s price is good news for sure

Kawasaki is likely to launch the BS6 Ninja 300 in the Indian market by March, or at the latest in April, next year.

The BS6-compliant version of the pretty successful entry-level performance motorcycle is expected to be launched with a lower price tag courtesy of increased localisation.

While earlier, the motorcycle’s body panels, brakes, cables, headlight and tyres were localised by the Japanese brand, this time around the focus is on engine components.

That said, the 296cc parallel-twin engine is still expected to produce power and torque outputs the same as or similar to the BS4 version where it made 39 PS at 11,000 RPM and 27 Nm at 10,000 RPM.

It will come mated to a 6-speed gearbox and will get an assist and slipper clutch as standard. Being BS6-compliant, the weight of the motorcycle is likely to go up from 179 kg (in its BS4 form) by a trifle.

No other changes are expected to be made to the bike and it is expected to sport the same suspension and braking hardware as the BS4 version, while the styling too will be carried forward as it is.

As mentioned earlier, the BS6 Kawasaki Ninja 300 launch will see the model’s price drop from the earlier. It might be retailed at about Rs. 2.50 lakhs (ex-showroom), to bring it in line with its competition.

This strategy would be similar to what BMW did with its BS6 G 310 R naked motorcycle, the Ninja 300’s direct competitor, reducing its price and retailing it at Rs. 2.45 lakhs (ex-showroom) at present.

That aside, Kawasaki is also set to launch the W175 motorcycle next year and it will become the most affordable offering from the bikemaker in the country.
