Maruti XL6 vs Ertiga

Maruti Suzuki has launched its new MPV, the XL6 in India at a starting price of Rs. 9.79 lakhs (ex-showroom). The Ertiga-based MPV follows a 6-seat configuration with 2 captain seats and gets a single BS6-compliant 1.5-litre petrol engine with mild-hybrid technology. The XL6 is sold via the brand’s Nexa dealerships while the Ertiga is available via the Arena.

We have analysed and compared the two extensively to give an insight into how these products are different from each other.

Exterior

Maruti XL6 Front
The XL6 does look more attractive than the Ertiga

While the Ertiga has a subtle and neutral design which attracts the majority of people, the XL6 is a bit spiced up. The black body cladding, chunkier bumpers, faux skid plates, aggressive front styling, blackened out alloy wheels along with roof rails make the car look fresh and sportier than its sibling. The LED headlamps + DRLs and the new chrome grille complement the look as well.

The Ertiga has a neat Maruti-family design

Even with some shared body panels with the Ertiga, the XL6 stands apart and has a massive road presence. The XL6 is longer, wider and taller than the Ertiga but both have the same wheelbase and ground clearance. The colour palette of both MPVs is mostly the same. The XL6 gets additional options such as Nexa Blue and Brave Khaki while Ertiga gets an Auburn Red option which is not available on the XL6.

Interior

Maruti XL6 6 Seat Layout
The XL6 gets a 6-seater configuration unlike the Ertiga which is a 7-seater

The major difference is in the seating layout and the cabin colour scheme. While the Ertiga comes with a beige interior, the new MPV gets an all-black theme. Similarly, while the former gets a bench in the middle row, the XL6 gets 2 comfortable and plush captain seats as the second row, giving it a 6-seat configuration.

Powertrain

The Maruti XL6 only gets a BS6 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine producing 103 HP and 138 Nm, paired with a 5-speed MT and a 4-speed automatic transmission. The top-spec Ertiga is not available with the automatic option whereas both variants of the XL6 get the same.

On the other hand, the Maruti Ertiga is offered with a petrol as well as a diesel engine. The fuel efficiency is identical for both i.e. 19.01 km/l for the manual and 17.99 km/l for the automatic variants (petrol). The Ertiga now comes with a company-fitted CNG kit option which is not offered on the XL6.
