The Mercedes CLA is scheduled for launch on 22nd January in India

The premium compact products have surely worked wonders for Mercedes-Benz India having been extremely successful beyond the company’s expectations. While the B-Class went on sale first, the German auto giant went on to launch the A-Class premium hatchback followed by its SUV derivate GLA last year. Now the company is bringing in the highly awaited CLA premium compact sedan to the country, which also happens to be the most aerodynamic series production car in India.

The India spec Mercedes CLA comes with a drag coefficient (Cd) of just 0.25 and will be locally assembled at the company’s facility near Pune later (initial models are CBUs). While the number is exemplary, the CLA is triumphed by big daddy the S-Class that commands a drag coefficient of 0.24 making it the most aerodynamic car in the country. Internationally, the CLA comes with an extremely aerodynamic 180 BlueEfficiency variant that has a Cd of 0.22 courtesy of a number of changes including revised A-pillar, active shutters on the radiator grille, changed under body protection and much more.

The improved aerodynamics ensure lower resistance to the wind, which in turn improves the speed as well as the fuel efficiency on the vehicle. The Mercedes CLA with its flowing lines and frugal engines just manages to offer a very well equipped package boasting of certain credentials. To be launched on 22nd January in the country, the CLA will go on sale with petrol and diesel engine options, while prices are expected to start at around Rs. 34 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
