MG Reveals The Cyber X ‘Box’ SUV Concept, Features Boxy Proportions & Smooth Lines
MG has revealed the Cyber X SUV concept at Auto Shanghai 2025. The electric SUV originates from MG’s Cyber sub-brand and is one of three models that the brand showcased, which also includes the MG Cyberster, and the exclusive Cyberster Black 101st Anniversary Edition.
Cyber X: Styling
The MG Cyber X has an upright and boxy look, which is unique and doesn’t look similar to the Defender or G-Class. The vehicle features pop-up headlights, illuminated badges and an LED light bar that stretches to either side. There are dual-tone alloy wheels with smooth lines, which add to the imposing presence.
Cyber X: Platform
The boxy electric SUV utilises SAIC’s (parent company of MG) E3 platform. It features a fully electric and system-level architecture. The platform has the capability to support a wide range of models from low-slung sports cars to SUVs. There is also the flexibility to use multiple drivetrain combinations, catering to a large audience.
The E3 platform makes use of the CTB (cell-to-body) construction. This allows for the battery’s structure to contribute to the structural rigidity of the vehicle. This helps to improve efficiency and reduce weight.
MG Cyberster
MG has updated the Cyberster sportscar that make the EV more appealing for potential buyers. The 2026 Cyberster gets two new colour options: Iris Blue and Andes Grey, as well as two dual tone interior shades: Red/Black and Grey/White. The cabin turbulence has been slashed by 90% compared to the current model sold in International markets.
The Cyberster gets a special Black Edition 101st Anniversary Edition. It offers gloss-black paint with chrome accents. In addition to the hardtop GTS variant, these upgradations will help to expand the Cyberster lineup and potentially cater to a wider audience.
Cyber X: Features
The Cyber X will receive the Zebra 3.0 operating system and user interface. This software will implement contemporary voice recognition and connectivity features as compared to the current systems.
Cars utilising the E3 platform will also be fitted with Horizon Robotics’ J6 Chip. It is expected to support new advancements with respect to road monitoring and autonomous driving. It is important to note that MG has yet to reveal information relating to the battery capacity and range.
Outlook
The Cyber sub-brand is centred around the younger car buyers in China. However, MG has realised the potential it can have in India and will soon launch the Cyberster EV sports car in the country. The brand also has a goal of launching 8 new models over the next two years.
