VinFast Set To Open Manufacturing Plant In Tamil Nadu By June 2025
VinFast is set to work in its manufacturing plant in India from June 2025. The manufacturing plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu is a $2 billion facility. The first phase will see an investment of $500 million investment and is expected to start production of EVs in 2026.
The manufacturing plant will have an annual production capacity of 150,000 vehicles. The company also aims to develop an entire ecosystem centred around the EVs. This includes the battery manufacturing and setting up of charging stations in the country.
The Tamil Nadu manufacturing plant was selected due to its proximity to the airport and seaport, allowing easier import from Vietnam. The brand currently has two factories in Vietnam that have a capacity of 50,000 vehicles and 100,000 vehicles respectively. VinFast is also looking at other markets such as West Africa and Africa.
The VinFast manufacturing facility will provide 3,000-3,500 local employment opportunities. The Vietnamese brand seems poised to take on the local EV market. However, it remains to be seen whether the brand will be able to develop the necessary infrastructure to support its vehicles.
