Nissan is working on bringing the next generation Micra to India by 2019. The India-spec Micra will wear the same design language as the European-spec Micra but will underpin the relatively low-cost CMF-A+ platform unlike the European-spec Micra that sits on the V platform.

The low-cost CMF-A+ platform and excessive localisation on the next generation Micra will help Nissan keep the costs in check. The next generation Micra does look a significant step up in terms of design and looks but is expected to miss the diesel engine. Even the interiors of the hatchback get drastic changes over the current model.

However, the new Nissan Micra is expected to be powered by the group’s 1.5-litre 106 HP petrol engine that powers the Renault Duster CVT as well. Meanwhile, the car will also get the X-Tronic CVT gearbox as an option to the 5-speed manual gearbox. When launched in India, the next generation Nissan Micra will go against the likes of the Maruti Swift and Hyundai Grand i10.
