The Peugeot 3008 is Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster rival in India.

Peugeot 3008 Side Profile
Peugeot 3008 is based on the Efficient Modular Platform (EMP)

Earlier this year, Groupe PSA, the French multinational manufacturer of automobiles and motorcycles, announced its partnership with the CK Birla Group, hinting towards a brand relaunch into the Indian market by 2020.

According to the arrangement between Groupe PSA and CK Birla Group, Hindustan Motor Finance Corporation Limited will handle the sales and distribution of PSA cars in India, while AVTEC Ltd, another subsidiary of the CK Birla Group, will be in charge of making powertrains. Localisation will help the company price their products competitively.

Peugeot has begun testing its cars in India and in the pipeline is the 3008 SUV. Needless to say, the 3008 does look a big and butch SUV. The smartly designed headlight, larger air intakes in the bumper sets it apart from the competition. In the recent update, the 3008 got two new variants- GT Line and GT. It gets the dual chrome exhaust pipes, dual-tone colour scheme and 19-inch alloy wheels etc. The tail-lights also get a distinctive styling.

The interior is where the Peugeot 3008 impresses. The cabin has a very modern and contemporary approach and features Peugeot’s i-Cockpit design theme. There is a 12.3-inch all-digital instrument cluster and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The front seats get heating function. There is also a panoramic sunroof. Other features include front and rear parking sensors, 6 airbags, smartphone connectivity etc.

Powering the 3008 are a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.6-litre diesel motor. The 1.2 petrol is the same as seen in the 208 but will be tuned to deliver more power. The 1.6 diesel is expected to output 99-120 HP of power. In addition to the above, the 3008 GT Line gets the BlueHDi diesel engine, while the GT variant also gets the 2.0-litre BlueHDi 180 S&S engine that comes mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Due to the localisation and keeping in mind the price-conscious Indian market, Peugeot could skip some of the features that are offered in the international-spec 3008.

The Peugeot 3008 is expected to be priced in the similar range as the Hyundai Creta and the Renault Duster in India. The company will be investing close to 100 million (approximately Rs. 700 crores) for the manufacturing facilities in Tamil Nadu.
