The coupe now gets more carbon-fiber parts

Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS has been launched in India, gets a price tag of Rs. 2.54 crores (ex-showroom)

Porsche India has launched the top-of-the-line 718 Cayman GT4 RS in India for a price tag of Rs. 2.54 crores (ex-showroom). It sits above the entire 718 range currently on sale here including the GT4.

Available only as a coupe, the new RS is not only lighter than the regular GT4 but also more powerful. Propelled by the regular 4-litre naturally aspirated 6-cylinder engine from the latter, the new model now produces 500 HP, 80 HP up from the existing GT4.

With the increased output, the new 718 Cayman GT4 RS can accelerate from 0-100 km/hr in 3.4 seconds while top speed is in excess of 315 km/hr.

The engine comes mated to a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission which is the lone option to choose. On the contrary, the existing GT4 also has the option of a 6-speed manual transmission.

Porsche claims, the weight reduction on the RS was possible with the use of new carbon fibre reinforced plastics for the bonnet and aero bits. The sports car also gets a ligher rear wind shield.

On the outside, the 718 Cayman GT4 RS features a typical Porsche design language with large spoiler at the rear. There are new aero vents at front with adjustable diffusers. The ride height is now down by 30 mm compared to the standard Cayman.

Porsche claims these changes have increased the downforce by a good 10 percent and, in the track-oriented performance mode, it’s further increased to a phenomenal 60 percent.

The rear quarter glass area now get vents that direct air straight to the engine for better cooling and aerodynamics. Porsche claims such a setup has bettered the soundtrack a bit.

While the standard 718s come powered by a 2-litre 4-cylinder 300 HP engine, the 4-litre engine on the GTS variants produces 400 HP and an additional 20 HP on the top GT4 model. While the newly launched GT4 RS doesn’t have any rivals in India, it could loosely compete with the Jaguar F-Type and BMW Z4.
