French carmaker Renault has decided to pour substantial amount of funds into its Indian arm and produce tailor-made products for the country. The company says it plans to introduce one new product every year.
French carmaker Renault received a lot of flak in its initial years of operations in the country because of its lazy approach and pricing which was out of sync with market trends. But the company did not stop and dropped a bombshell named Kwid, thereby finding some footing in the brutally unforgiving Indian market. Now acting like a true world-class carmaker, Renault has now decided to pour more funds into its Indian arm in order to develop special products for the Indian public.
Renault had recently infused a huge Rs. 500 crores into its Indian subsidiary, and is now considering investing another Rs. 2500-3000 crores over the next four years for a major product push that the French carmaker has planned for this growing automotive market. The blitzkrieg of vehicles is a part of an aggressive product strategy through which Renault plans to introduce one new product every year and bring SUVs, MPVs, crossovers and sedans priced under Rs. 8 lakhs to India. Majority of this moolah is part of the planned investment in production and R&D resources.
The Frenchmen are feeling fairly confident with their plans as it employs the new CMF-A small car platform (Kwid) and the successful M0 platform (Duster, Logan) for developing upcoming vehicles such as the new Kaptur D-segment SUV and the Kwid based sub 4-metre sedan and compact SUV to take on the Maruti DZire and Vitara Brezza respectively. The automaker aims to increase its market share to a minimum of 7-8 percent in the near future. The Kwid has helped Renault break into the top five carmakers in India, with it on average dispatching around 10,000 units a month for some time now.
Renault is believed to be getting ready to introduce a more upmarket SUV to take on the XUV500 in the form of the Kaptur, which is actually based on the Duster platform instead of the European Captur currently on sale which is based on the Clio platform. The company recently introduced a 1.0-litre version of the Kwid and to have a further push on the brand, it will be launching a clutch-less version shortly. At this point, the automaker would certainly like to avoid mistakes like the Fluence and Koleos.
