Skoda India on Thursday said its total sales for 2008 stood at 16,188 units, registering a growth of 28.5% from 12,596 units in 2007.

“Though 2008 was a challenging year for the auto industry, Skoda Auto India succeeded in growing by putting the customers demand on the forefront, particularly with the launch of Super Hatch Fabia. Our current models are drawing a very positive customer response and we have some great new products coming in the New Year that will keep our momentum going,” Skoda India Board Member Thomas Kuehl said in a statement.

The company sold 6,634 units of the Fabia since its launch in January 2008. Skoda India is a subsidiary of Czech Republic-based Skoda Auto. The company has a facility in Aurangabad, Maharashtra.It sells 19 models in India through 60 dealerships. Skoda entered India in Nov 2001 and has sold over 65,900 units so far.
