Skoda has revealed the 1.0 TSI version of the Rapid at the Auto Expo.

This time around the Skoda pavilion at the Auto Expo has left no stone unturned. There is a new concept, there is a range of new vehicles showcased for India launch and amongst them is the new updated BS6 Skoda Rapid.

The 2020 Skoda Rapid BS6 also features minor cosmetic updates. The Marco Polo edition gets larger 17-inch alloy wheels. Further, the Rapid BS6 also comes in a new Matte concept. It’s expected to cost Rs. 50,000 more than the standard model.

The Skoda Rapid has been one of the highest selling cars for Skoda in India since a long time. With the BS6 norms kicking in soon, the carmaker needs to update their engines quickly, especially with their high selling models.

Skoda India has come up with the updated Rapid that comes with minor changes but most importantly a new BS6 compliant engine. No, it’s not the 1.6-litre MPI petrol and neither the 1.5-litre diesel unit, both of them have been discontinued.

The Czech carmaker has introduced a new 1.0-litre TSI turbo petrol engine for the Skoda Rapid which is BS6 compliant and comes with both manual and DSG automatic transmission options. It develops 115 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque. It is offered with the option of a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG.

This new engine will also be shared with the Volkswagen Polo and Vento. The updated Skoda Rapid will go on sale in April and compete with the likes of Maruti Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Honda City, Volkswagen Vento and the likes.
