Suzuki is readying a fully-faired version of the Gixxer and it will be launched very soon. The bike will rival competitors from Bajaj, Yamaha and Honda.

Suzuki SLK Gixxer
The Gixxer GSX150R shares its mechanicals with the Gixxer 150

The past couple of days have been flooded with news that state that the fully-faired version of the Suzuki Gixxer will be called Gixxer SLK. However, all of that can be laid to rest now because the latest vine is that the Gixxer won’t be called by the SLK moniker and the fully-faired version of the bike will carry the GSX150R name. The SLK name was created out of some confusion. The Suzuki Gixxer GSX150R, whose production already seems to have commenced, will be positioned at the upper spectrum of the 150cc segment and it will be slotted as the company’s flagship offering in India.

While we first thought that Suzuki will come up with a semi-faired version of the bike, similar to the Yamaha FZ and Fazer, we were quite surprised to see the automaker developing a proper fully-faired model. The mechanicals will continue to remain the same and the Gixxer GSX150R will be powered by a 154.9cc single-cylinder, air-cooled, 2-valve engine that churns out 14.8 PS of power at 8000 RPM and 14 Nm of torque at 6000 RPM. The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The regular Gixxer is known for its peppy performance and it is likely that Suzuki will tune the faired model for slightly better performance.

The 150cc segment has mostly been dominated by Bajaj and Yamaha but the Gixxer has got good volumes for Suzuki. The company is very optimistic about expanding the Gixxer range. The Suzuki Gixxer GSX150R will be competing with the Bajaj Pulsar 150, Yamaha Fazer and Yamaha R15. The bike comes with great dynamics and easily satisfies the biking enthusiast. It will be launched by April 2015 and we can expect Suzuki to price the Gixxer fully-faired model at approximately Rs. 85,000/-. The regular Gixxer is priced at Rs. 72,199/- (ex-showroom, Delhi).
