Tata is working on 6 new cars with multiple design studios. One of them will be a premium hatchback, codenamed the Tata X451.

The design is inspired from the soon to be launched Tata Nexon

Tata has been on a roll in the recent years. The company has strived hard to come out of its dull commercial image and make a name in the passenger vehicle market. With the upcoming Tata Nexon, Kite 5 and Hexa, Tata has made it clear that they are here to dominate. For this, it has been working in tandem with multiple design studios in the UK, Italy and in India with its acquired subsidiary, Jaguar Land Rover on a new modular platform called AMP for its future line of products.

One of the first products in this line-up will be a premium hatchback that will compete against the likes of the Maruti Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20. The hatchback is codenamed X451. The X451 will have a design similar to that of the upcoming Tata Nexon. An artist at Overdrive magazine has created renders for the same. The X451 will sport sleek headlights with a projector setup, low set fog lamps which will house LED DRLs. The face will be quite aggressive compared to the Tiago or the Bolt.

The cabin too will carry their new philosophy and will boast high quality construction and materials. It is also expected to get a similar infotainment display as the one showcased on the Tata Nexon. The hatchback will be based on Tata’s new AMP platform, and will feature new 4-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. No concrete information is available on the specifications of these powertrains. However, there are rumours about a hot-hatch version of the X451 which may be loosely based on the Tata Bolt Sport concept showcased at the Auto Expo.

The AMP’s modular nature will aid Tata Motors in up-scaling the platforms for multiple body styles like compact sedans, crossovers, etc. The Tiago, Kite 5 and Nexon draw a fair bit of cues from the upcoming platform. Apart from the X451, there is a sedan in the works, based on the hatchback, which will be placed against the Honda City. Tata is also developing a pair of MPVs codenamed X601 and X602 which will replace the ageing Sumo and Movus. Two SUVs, codenamed Q501 and Q502 are also in the making and will be placed higher than the Safari and Hexa, and will compete against the likes of the Mahindra XUV500, Toyota Fortuner and the new Ford Endeavour. All of the above mentioned launches are scheduled between 2017-2020.
