The gap between Royal Enfield and its competition needs to reduce

Performance bike sales of December 2020 sees the Royal Enfield 650 twins lead the pack once again and that too by a very large margin.

With just over 1300 units sold, it looks like the 650 twins from the middleweight segment leader would face some heat only when the firm launches the Classic 650 and the 650 cruiser.

In a very distant second place sits the Kawasaki Z900, 29 units of which were sold in December last year, followed by the Triumph Street Triple (28 units) in third position.

Then comes the Kawasaki Versys 650 which found 21 takers a couple of months ago and the Suzuki V-Strom 650XT, 17 examples of which were sold in December 2020.

Following it are the Triumph Bonneville T100 and the Kawasaki Ninja 1000, both fetching 15 unit sales. Another Kawasaki, this time, the Vulcan S cruiser, features in the list, as the Japanese bikemaker retailed 14 units of the bike.

The Kawasaki Versys 1000 managed to find 12 takers, while the final position is shared by 3 bikes – the Tiger 900 and Rocket 3 from Triumph and the Ninja 650 from Kawasaki – all of which fetched 5 unit sales in December 2020.

While bikes like the Z900 and Versys 1000 recorded 300 percent or more year-over-year (YoY) growth, many models featuring in the performance bike sales December 2020 chart did not fare well.

The Suzuki V-Strom, Kawasaki Ninja 1000, Versys 650, Ninja 650, Vulcan S, among others, all posted negative growth, for the month of December.
