In all honesty, the situation is grim

Maruti Suzuki’s Dzire topped compact sedan sales in May 2021, having registered sales of 5819 units, which was way higher than what its rivals could post combined.

Second-placed Hyundai Aura had 1637 unit sales, while Honda’s Amaze, which came third, was driven home by 478 individuals.

In final spot sits the Tata Tigor with 367 unit sales as Ford did not find any takers for the Aspire this past month.

Total sales of the compact sedan segment stood at 8301 units in May, which is a 64 percent month-on-month (MoM) degrowth.

No units of the Toyota Yaris were sold in May

Hyundai’s Verna took the top spot in the May 2021 C-segment sedan sales, having found 1181 takers, while the Honda City (1148 units) was relegated to second spot.

The Skoda Rapid soldiers on with 603 units, while Maruti could only find 349 buyers for its Ciaz. Volkswagen’s Vento did even worse numbers with 169 unit sales.

With the Ciaz has not been able to take the fight to the Verna and the City, it would be interesting to see how the Toyota Belta, which will replace the Yaris that did not find any new homes in May, performs.

A total of 3450 units of C-segment sedans got retailed in May 2021 as opposed to 8265 units in April, which is a 58 percent MoM degrowth.

Hyundai is likely to respond to the arrival of the new Octavia

The Skoda Octavia topped the May 2021 D-segment sedan sales. Once the new generation Octavia goes on sale this month, its numbers might further rise. Its only competitor, the Elantra did not do well this past month, only fetching 9 new unit sales for Hyundai.
