December 2020 Midsize SUV Sales
Tata’s 2021 Safari will soon join this list

Hyundai Creta leads the December 2020 midsize SUV sales from the Kia Seltos, but the gap between the 2 models (in terms of sales) has hugely widened.

Creta found 10,592 buyers last month, a very strong 58 percent year-over-year (YoY) growth, while the Seltos, despite growing 21 percent, only managed 5608 unit sales.

Up next is the MG Hector, which received a facelift recently, with 3430 units to its name, followed very closely by the Mahindra Scorpio with 3417 units.

The Scorpio will soon be replaced by a more modern version and that should help bring more sales to the brand. Tata retailed 2223 units of the Harrier in December 2020. The SUV’s sales grew by a respectable 52 percent YoY.

Maruti Suzuki’s S-Cross comes next with 1185 units, followed by the Mahindra XUV500 (750 units), while the Duster could only find 494 takers.

Similarly, the Jeep Compass (384 units), MG ZS EV (122 units), Nissan Kicks (97 units) and Hyundai Kona Electric (24 units) did not fare well either. However, with a total of 28,331 units retailed in December 2020, the segment posted a 19 percent YoY growth.

December 2020 Premium SUV Sales
The MG Gloster has, right from the get-go, become a favourite among buyers

In the premium segment of the December 2020 SUV sales, it is the recently facelifted Toyota Fortuner that leads with 584 unit sales.

Ford’s Endeavour was sent to third place last month due to the MG Gloster performing better than the American brand’s SUV.

Nonetheless, sales of the Endeavour (447 units) did rise by 71 percent YoY, which cannot be said about the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace as it recorded negative sales growth, just like the cars that follow it in the list.

Hyundai would like for the Tucson to perform better than what it did in December 2020 (80 units) and the same would go for the Mahindra Alturas G4 (9 units).

Occupying last place is the Honda CR-V, only 4 units of which got sold as opposed to 38 units during the same period the year before. Overall, cars in the segment cumulatively sold 1829 units, with a 26 percent YoY growth.
