Only the Safari has posted positive sales growth

Having topped overall car sales in May 2021, the Creta SUV from Hyundai, naturally, sits on top of its class as well.

With 7527 unit sales, the Korean car has a clear advantage over its rivals, including its twin, the Kia Seltos which could only record sales of 4277 units in May.

Then comes the Mahindra Scorpio (1782 units), followed by the Tata Safari and Harrier which registered sales of 1536 units and 1360 units, respectively.

MG’s Hector range could only find 1231 takers this past month and it is the last vehicle in the list with a 4-digit sales figure.

Following the Hector range is the Jeep Compass with only 475 unit sales in May, while the Maruti S-Cross (231 units), Mahindra XUV500 (217 units) and Volkswagen T-Roc (149 units) managed to get 3-digit sales figures. The rest did not do well.

Overall, the cars in the midsize SUV segment registered sales of 18,704 units with a 45 percent month-on-month (MoM) degrowth.

Surprise, surprise, the Fortuner has fallen!

Surprisingly, it is the Ford Endeavour that leads the May 2021 premium SUV sales as Toyota could only manage to sell 15 units of the Fortuner in the same period.

In second place comes the MG Gloster with 129 unit sales, followed by the Hyundai Tucson (74 units), while the last position in the list goes to the Mahindra Alturas G4 which found 9 new homes.

A total of 490 premium SUVs were sold in May 2021 as opposed to 2685 units registered in April 2021, which is a steep 82 percent decline in sales.
