Toyota has announced that it is recalling a total of 2.9 million units of the Corolla Altis in markets such as Japan, China, Oceania and some other regions including India. The reason for this recall is the potentially faulty airbag inflators from Takata.

In India, 23,000 Corolla Altis are being recalled and the affected vehicles have been manufactured between 2010 and 2012. Toyota will inform customers about the recall and the affected vehicles will be repaired at Toyota authorised service stations free of cost.

Global transport authorities have stated that the Takata airbag inflator containing chemical compound ammonium nitrate is unsafe if used without a drying agent.
