New Toyota SUV to be a three-row Corolla Cross based model

In a strategic move to capitalise on the surging demand for cars in India, Toyota is set to make significant changes by building its third car manufacturing plant in the country. This expansion marks Toyota’s commitment to the Indian market and comes as a result of its strong partnership with Suzuki, which has propelled its domestic sales.

Alongside this plant, Toyota is also gearing up to launch a new SUV specifically tailored for the Indian market. It is likely to be a three-row SUV based on the Corolla Cross which is sold in the international markets.

Toyota’s forthcoming plant in India is envisioned to kick off with an annual production capacity of 80,000 to 1,20,000 vehicles, with the potential to scale up to around 2,00,000 units over time. This significant investment will boost Toyota’s existing manufacturing capacity in India by up to 30%, from its current 4,00,000 units per year.

Toyota is gearing up for the launch of a new SUV designed specifically for the Indian market. This SUV is set to be unveiled in early 2026 and will play a pivotal role as a cornerstone product for the new manufacturing facility.

The forthcoming C-segment SUV, codenamed 340D, is set to bridge the gap between Toyota’s mid-sized Urban Cruiser Hyryder and the larger Innova Hycross. With a production target of 60,000 units annually upon its launch in early 2026, Toyota aims to capture the growing demand for SUVs in India.

Under Toyota and Suzuki collaboration, both Japanese automakers leverage each other’s vehicle designs and technologies to enrich their product portfolios. Models originally developed by Maruti Suzuki, such as the Glanza and Urban Cruiser Hyryder, now account for a significant 40% of Toyota’s India sales.

In addition to the new SUV, Toyota is considering introducing a “mini” Land Cruiser in India. If given the green light, parts for this model would be imported for assembly in India, offering a potential niche offering to Indian consumers.
