VW CrossPolo

The Volkswagen Group, which consists of Volkswagen, Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini and Porsche brands in America, are planning to become the number one automaker in the world by 2018. The German car maker, Volkswagen is planning to introduce new variants of its existing Polo in the Indian market next year, including the CrossPolo – a rugged version of the standard Polo. The CrossPolo boasts a rugged off-road kit that makes the car look mature. CrossPolo is to Polo, what the Fabia Scout is to the Fabia.

The Volkswagen CrossPolo has been jacked up a bit by 15 mm, featuring a thick matte plastic band that extends across the chin, the flanks and around the rear. The wheel arches get the same treatment and there’s a scuff plate with a dull silver finish. The CrossPolo also gets silver roof rails where up to 75 kgs of luggage can be mounted and secured. A silver diffuser at the rear and big 17-inch wheels are also a part of the off-road kit. A tailgate-mounted spare wheel can be expected on the India-Spec CrossPolo, giving it a SUVish look.

The spare wheel isn’t counted as a part of the car’s length and it will enjoy the sub-four metre excise duty benefit. Volkswagen is likely to offer a CNG option too. The empty spare wheel well under the boot floor could be used to feature a toroidal CNG cylinder. The CrossPolo is expected to be powered by the made-for-India 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine. Along with the CrossPolo, Volkswagen will launch a 1.6 GTD diesel variant and a 1.2 TSI petrol variant of the Polo next year.
