Volkswagen has confirmed the name of its upcoming compact SUV, the Nivus. Touted as an urban coupé, which was earlier known as T-Sport, it will be positioned below the T-Cross in the international market.

The video released by Volkswagen reveals some details about the crossover. The Nivus adopts a unique grille, sweptback headlamps and triangular fog lamps. The highlight also includes a coupé-like sloping roofline along with roof rails, rear spoilers with wraparound LED taillights.

The Volkswagen Nivus will be launched in the Brazilian market by mid-2020 and later on in the European market. For the emerging markets, the compact SUV will be based on VW’s MQB A0 platform that underpins the current-generation Polo sold internationally.

The Nivus will have a wheelbase of 2560 mm, which is the same as the Polo and 90 mm shorter than the T-Cross. Volkswagen is expected to launch the Nivus with a 115 PS, 1.0-litre TSI turbocharged engine paired with either a manual or an automatic gearbox.

Volkswagen will unveil the T-Cross SUV based on the ‘MQB A0 IN’ platform, which is curated explicitly for India. VW will be showcasing the SUV at the 2020 AutoExpo 2020 along with the Tiguan AllSpace and the T-Roc.
