Kia Sub-4 Metre SUV
Near-production version might be showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo

Kia has confirmed that the company will produce and sell two newly developed models next year. In the first and second half of 2020, the company plans to introduce a premium MPV and a small, entry SUV respectively.

It has been extensively reported that the first product out of Kia’s kitty for 2020 is going to the Carnival premium MPV. The brand’s 3rd product in India is a sub-4 metre SUV that is being developed under the codename ‘Kia QYI’. It is likely that the compact SUV will be launched just before the festive season. South Korea was the first market to get the Seltos compact SUV. It is expected that India might be the first market to introduce the new sub-4 metre offering.

Since the 2020 Auto Expo is just around the corner, it is expected that Kia’s new sub-4 metre SUV will be showcased at the event in a near-production avatar. The brand will offer a range of new features with the Carnival and the sub-4 metre SUV, including next-gen e-Call telematics, advanced GPS and navigation systems, remote ignition and real-time traffic monitoring, as well as several comfort-oriented features.

The Kia sub-4 metre SUV will be based on the same platform as the Hyundai Venue. In India, expect it to be powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 120 PS of power, a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine. A 6-speed manual transmission will likely be standard, while an automatic transmission option; a 7-speed dual-clutch unit may be offered only with the 1.0-litre petrol engine.

Keeping in mind the segment that consists of competitors like the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 and the Ford EcoSport, the Kia sub-4 metre SUV should be priced somewhere around Rs. 7 lakhs, ex-showroom India.
