Volkswagen will discontinue diesel from its portfolio by the BS6 emission norms deadline.

VW Electric Car
The production version of the I.D Crozz will arrive in India in 2021

Volkswagen has expressed the company’s plan to bring electric cars to our market including the recently showcased I.D Crozz-based electric SUV. Expect the production version of the I.D Crozz concept in India by 2021. Having said that, the company does not see the potential for mass-market models at the moment.

Volkswagen believes that there is already a market for electric cars in India, but it’s just not mass volume. It’s a more selective market where people who own 2 or 3 cars will replace one in their garage with an electric car. The market dynamic is further aided by the fact that electric cars are still relatively costly and the charging infrastructure is yet to completely develop in the country.

Post the Dieselgate scandal, Volkswagen has made a significant shift towards electric mobility without letting go of the diesel technology for larger cars. The brand claims to be committed to pushing Euro7 and more standards in diesel for the Tiguan and upper segment cars. Diesel might just make a comeback in cars like the Tiguan in India since Volkswagen will discontinue diesel from its entire portfolio by the BS6 emission norms deadline.
