The SsangYong Tivoli started life under the project name X100 and will be the most affordable offering from the South Korean automaker, and is based out of the XIV concepts.
SsangYong’s first model to reach the production state from the XIV concepts, the Mahindra-owned South Korean auto giant finally revealed the production version of the X100 compact SUV in sketches and has been christened as the ‘Tivoli’. Taking the name from an Italian town located near Rome, the Tivoli compact SUV is also the automaker’s most affordable offering positioned below the Korando C in SsangYong’s lineup.
While SsangYong showcased the near production model in the form of XIV Air and XIV Adventure concepts at the Paris Motor Show last month, these new official sketches showcase the production ready version in complete detail and are heavily influenced from the XIV concepts in terms of design. On the inside too, the SsangYong Tivoli appears to have a feature rich and well appointed cabin that has been designed to offer the driver and passengers with easy in-car IT device connectivity as well as numerous storage spaces.
In terms of dimensions, the new SsangYong Tivoli sits under the 4-metre mark like the XIV concepts, while power will come from the 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engine options under the hood. The Tivoli is scheduled for launch in its home market South Korea in January 2015, while the UK and other markets will get it by mid-2015. In the Indian context, Mahindra and SsangYong have not provided any confirmation on the launch of the Tivoli in the country, but will be an ideal product to compete against the Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster and the likes.
