The Bajaj Avenger will be offered in three versions including a 150cc, 200cc and the current 220cc version will most likely be also retained.

Bajaj will be retaining the Avenger 220 but will introduce several updates

Long before Marvel made it cool, the Avenger was originally a Bajaj initiative launched in 2005 and was the first cruiser to be made by an Indian company. While the Pulsar series has been the more glorified range in the company’s lineup, the Avenger has been silently pulling in the volumes as well with regular updates coming in the form of 200cc and 220cc engines. Now, Bajaj is all set to introduce an extensively updated Avenger next week, but not as a stand-alone model but a series itself.

Bajaj Auto is working on a new family of Avenger cruisers, a strategy it has previously used for the Pulsar and Discover models (but succeeded only on the former). As recent reports suggest, the Avenger family will comprise of three models and will also sport three different engines, positioning the models in different segments.

First up, Bajaj plans to introduce the 200cc motor from the Pulsar 200 NS and RS 200 on the Avenger, but will be tuned differently for better cruising abilities along with longer gears and a deeper growl from the new exhaust. This unit could be called the Street 200 and will get alloy wheels, all black paint job, revised instrument cluster and seat among a host of other changes.

While the new Avenger 200 will be for the more mature set of riders, Bajaj knows the cruiser can do much better in terms of volumes and is also readying up a smaller derivative with a more attractive price tag that will be targeted for those who want the occasional cruising comfort but city riding practicality too. This will be the Avenger 150 that will come with the quintessential cruiser styling, but not the overwhelming price tag. Needless to say, the 150cc motor will come from the Pulsar AS 150 but in a different state of tune.

In addition to the 150cc and 200cc models that will go on sale next week, Bajaj reportedly will also retain the outgoing Avenger 220 that was recently caught testing and gets restyled handlebars, a new exhaust and wind deflector (likely to be optional). The motor borrowed from the Pulsar 220F will continue to be on offer in a similar state of tune. Bajaj is ambitious with the new Avenger range and is eyeing to clock around 20,000 units every month and 25-30,000 units a month in another year or two.
