Toyota has confirmed that it will bring its SUV, the Toyota Fortuner in India by September 2009. The Fortuner is expected to be priced at about Rs 20 lakh. The Toyota Fortuner would be launched with a 3.0liter advanced common-rail diesel engine. Fortuner would be brought into the country as a knocked down unit and would be assembled at TKM’s Bidadi plant.
“The Fortuner is an important addition to our product line-up in India and we are currently in the process of finalising details for the launch,” Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) Deputy Managing Director Sandeep Singh said. “Taking into account the variations in exchange rates, the company is still working out on the price details of the SUV, but “expect it to be around Rs 20 lakh”, he added.
TKM is currently constructing its second manufacturing facility in Bangalore at an investment of Rs 3,200 crore to launch a “strategic” small car in India by 2011.

Why isen’t toyota bringing the Automatic version to India?? While CRV and Captiva both have auto variants why is toyota not bringing in the Auto varient?? I hope toyota brings in the 3.0 D4-D AT (auto) varient in sep itself! if not the Crv sounds a better option.

Kiran, Toyota will want to price the Fortuner aggressively and hence they may adopt to cost cutting by having a manual gearbox.
