Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming 7-seater MPV was spotted in Delhi by a team-bhp member. The car seems to be based on the R3 concept, which the company had showcased at the Auto Expo last year. The above vehicle is the top end ZDi (diesel) and features ABS as standard. It was on its way to Japan for approval as per the person who snapped these pictures. This 7-seater MPV from Maruti would directly compete with the Mahindra Xylo and will be powered by the same diesel motor that powers the SX4 diesel (90PS at 4000 RPM). However we are still unsure of its length as a 7-seater can’t measure under 4 meters in length. What ever said, this MPV is not far from reaching the showrooms.

The underpinnings of this MPV is shared with the SX4. The interiors are shared with the upcoming Swift. This has been done to keep costs down.

At the rear, the production version has no similarities with the R3 concept. We don’t expect the front to have any similarities either.

Edit – The Maruti Suzuki MPV based on the R3 was spotted in Rajasthan (could be undergoing hot weather testing). From the looks of it, the car seems to be based on a stretched Ritz platform and featured three row of seats, 5 doors and a seating capacity of 7 people. The corrugated roof will increase strength, while the rear windscreen has been made to look pillar less. Boot space would be just about adequate for two bags, and the car would be priced anywhere between 6-8 lakhs. The tail lamps need a microscope to be effectively seen, which makes us believe that Maruti has a price target in mind. The car sports a intercooler, so a diesel is confirmed, but the MPV needs a more powerful version of its K12M to power this people mover.
