2014 Hyundai i20 Spyshots

In the recent past we saw a couple of test mules of the next generation Hyundai i20 doing rounds fully camouflaged in India. The hatchback has now been spotted testing in southern Europe with less camouflage, which reveals the overall design theory used by the carmaker. From the looks of it, the 2014 Hyundai i20 gets sleeker with a lean body stance unlike the outgoing model, which had a sort of bulbous appearance. The front end gets a wide grille along with slick wraparound headlamps and a sportier bumper lip. Just like the Hyundai Grand i10, the new i20 will get diamond cut style alloy wheels with a different pattern.

Coming to the side, the spy pictures of the next generation Hyundai i20 reveals a relatively longer wheelbase with shorter overhangs, which means that the carmaker has carved out more space for rear passengers. The roofline now gets smoother with a high window line. The rear appears to have a larger tail lamp cluster along with a brawny bumper. In all, Hyundai has treated the next generation i20 with drastic styling changes and it appears to be mature in size. The 2014 Hyundai i20 is expected to be offered with a range of petrol and diesel engines internationally.

For petrol variants, Hyundai is likely to offer a 3-cylinder 1.0-litre engine and the 4-cylinder 1.2-litre Kappa engine. For diesel options, the i20 will be offered with the same 3-cylinder 1.1-litre engine prepared for the Grand i10 and the 4-cylinder 1.4-litre engine, which it uses currently. It will be available with both manual and automatic transmissions. Expect the all new Hyundai i20 to be equipped with oodles of high-tech features and some segment first features too. The vehicle looks ready to hit production in the near future and we can expect it in India early next year. Does the Maruti Suzuki Swift have reason to worry?
