Audi India will be expanding its sports car lineup with the S5 Coupe soon that is based on the A4 sedan, and gets a supercharged V6 engine while retaining understated looks of the sedan.

The S5 Coupe is powered by a 3.0-litre supercharged V6 motor producing 333 HP

The luxury car segment is on a roll with almost every other luxury manufacturer proactively introducing products in India. One of them is Audi AG that is trying to retain its numero uno position in the domestic market, especially since a certain Stuttgart based compatriot is very close. Keeping up with new launches, the Ingolstadt based manufacturer has imported the S5 Coupe in the country earlier this month and the performance two-door sedan could be the next model to go on sale from the automaker.

The Audi S5 Coupe is the performance derivative of the A5 Coupe and will sit between the A4 and the mind boggling RS5 coupe in the automaker’s Indian lineup. Much like the A4 that it is based on, the S5 Coupe does not boast of any over the top design tweaks to convey its performance credentials. You do get familiar bits though like a single frame front grille, LED DRLs, LED tail lights and quad exhausts. Under the hood, a 3.0-litre supercharged V6 petrol motor powers the S5 Coupe producing 333 HP and 440 Nm of torque, paired to a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission that sends power to all four wheels via the Quattro system.

Weighing at 1675 kgs, the Audi S5 does the 0-100 km/hr sprint in 4.9 seconds and is capable of hitting an electronically limited top whack of 250 km/hr. Keeping the coupe sedated are a host of features including a sports differential lock, ABS, EBD, ESC, ASR and much more. Inside the cabin, the layout is all familiar, but the S5 Coupe gets better quality materials with an ensemble of leather and suede thrown around. The updated MMI system comes as standard with Audi connect while a Bang & Olufsen audio system emotes every tune perfectly. Given the niche segment a coupe is categorised in, Audi will be bringing the S5 Coupe to India via the CBU route and one can expect a price tag between Rs. 70-80 lakhs (ex-showroom).

While India is getting the outgoing S5 Coupe, Audi AG has already commenced work on the next generation S5 that is due for launch in 2017 and gets distinctive changes like larger intakes, prominent side sills, rear diffuser, bigger brakes and a new quad exhaust system. The new generation S5 is also expected to get Matrix LED lights as part of the standard package while the interior will be bundled up with the sportier ‘S’ treatment. Power will come from the same but uprated supercharged V6 motor that is likely to churn out between 340-360 HP this time.
