The Volvo XC60 looks like a mini XC90

Volvo has unveiled the new-generation XC60 earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show and has now launched the SUV in India with a sticker price of Rs. 55.90 lakhs (ex-showroom). The new XC60 is the fourth product from Volvo to be based on the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform after the XC90.

The Volvo XC60 takes design inspiration from the bigger XC90. The signature Thor’s hammer-inspired LED DRLs find their way to the XC60’s full-LED headlamps as well. The grille takes inspiration from the one on the XC90 and looks classy. The side profile looks macho and the alloys have a beautiful design. The rear though looks similar to the previous model, but there are tweaks to the tail-lights and bumper. Overall, the XC60 gets the much-needed design update and is in line with the Volvo’s current design language.

The interior of the Volvo XC60 also gets a massive makeover. The host of buttons on the centre console is replaced by a touchscreen 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The dashboard gets a new design (in line with Volvo’s design philosophy) and there is a new 3-spoke steering wheel. As it is with the new Volvo cars, the AC vents get a unique vertical design. You also get premium Nappa leather upholstery, Bowers and Wilkins sound system, heated & cooled front seats with massage function, heated rear seats and a panoramic sunroof.

Powering the new Volvo XC60 is a 2.0-litre D5 diesel motor mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission with AWD as standard. This 2.0-litre diesel engine produces 235 HP of power and 480 Nm of torque (which is 10 HP and 60 Nm more than the XC90!). You get three driving modes – Eco, City and Dynamic which alter the responses from the steering and suspension. Other features in the XC60 are an air-suspension, 19-inch alloy wheels, heads-up display, ESC and adaptive cruise control. However, the radar-based safety features like Rear Collision Warning, Pilot Assist, Blind Spot Information with Steer Assist and Cross Traffic Alert (BLIS) require a special mention here.

The Volvo XC60 is available in 4 colours – Pine Grey, Black Max, Havana Brown & Crystal White Pearl. The interiors can be configured in 3 colour schemes – Amber, Blond & Maroon Brown.
