Hyundai is planning to give its portfolio a major refresh by adding eight new products by the year 2020. This is an aggressive strategy considering the fact that 2020 is only one and a half years away. Other manufacturers too have multiple products lined up for India which is good news for Indian car buyers.

Hyundai has already begun arming itself to achieve this goal. Currently its facility in Chennai is running at almost full capacity. So money is being pumped into it to increase the annual production capacity to 7.5 lakh units. Hyundai is also trying to increase the efficiency of their processes and use value engineering. The car maker currently has nine models on sale in India.

The first major launch from these eight new cars will be that of the new Hyundai Santro. The company has decided to revive the model name which is known to almost every household in India. The car has been already spied testing here and will be launched in the upcoming festive season. An automated manual transmission (AMT) option is most likely to make it to the Santro which will be a little shorter and narrower than the current Grand i10. The end of 2018 might also see the recently launched Santa Fe (globally) coming to India.

The next big product will be the Hyundai Kona which will also be the first electric SUV to be launched in India by the company. Its assembly will take place in Chennai but the launch will only happen in 2019. Hyundai have also confirmed the launch of the Carlino compact sub-4 metre SUV in 2019 which might get an electric option too. The new Santro hatchback’s naming campaign will begin on the 16th of August 2018, it will use the Santro name along with another suffix.

Then there is the Hyundai Elantra which is being readied for a MY 2019 debut later this year. While a majority of Hyundai’s existing line-up has already been upgraded, only the Tucson and Eon remain. There’s no news about them yet but Hyundai is expected to come up with something sooner or later.
