The Fiat-owned Jeep brand continues to enjoy the success of its Compass model with good sales. They have a strong foothold in the premium compact SUV segment and to further strengthen it, the company had planned to launch the Compass Trailhawk off-road focused vehicle. It was scheduled for launch in the monsoon season but has been delayed by six months.

The holdup has come on the back of the new BS6 emission norms that will come into effect from 2020. Jeep has decided to make some modifications to the engine of the car to meet these new norms. The Trailhawk will continue to be powered by the 2.0-litre diesel motor producing 171 HP of power and 350 Nm of torque found on the current Compass. However, a new 9-speed automatic transmission will be mated to the engine.

The Jeep Compass Trailhawk has already been showcased in India at a private even held in March this year. Notable upgrades include a four-wheel drive system with low range support and an additional ‘Rock’ mode. The ride height of the Trailhawk has also been increased by 20 mm to prevent it from scraping the ground. It has newly designed front and rear bumpers which give it an approach angle of 30-degrees and a departure angle of 33.6-degrees; its break over angle stands at 24.4-degrees. The SUV will also be rolling on new 17-inch two tone alloy wheels.

The Trailhawk will be competing against the Hyundai Tucson 4WD and is expected to be priced at a premium of around Rs. 2-2.5 lakhs over the current Compass.
