Lando Norris Wins The 2025 Austrian Grand Prix, Ahead Of Title Rival Oscar Piastri, As Max Verstappen Suffered A Race-Ending Collision
Lando Norris won the 2025 Austrian Grand Prix after a thrilling battle with his teammate, Oscar Piastri, who finished P2. Charles Leclerc finished P3, completing the podium, falling short on race pace to the superior McLarens after starting P2.
Race Start
Lewis Hamilton finished P4 after qualifying in the same position. However, it was a massive blow to Redbull as Max Verstappen’s race came to a shuddering end at the start as Andrea Kimi Antonelli crashed into the flying Dutchman. It will be interesting to observe how the Redbull driver bounces back from the disappointment at the team’s home race.
Race officials penalised Andrea Kimi Antonelli with a 3-place grid penalty for causing a collision in his next race. His teammate, George Russell, finished P5. Liam Lawson achieved his best race finish of the season by finishing P6 for the VCARB.
Top 10
Fernando Alonso marked a respectable result for Aston Martin by finishing P7. Sauber made a great comeback as Gabriele Bortoleto finished P8, scoring his maiden points, after his season-best qualifying. His teammate, Nico Hulkenberg, made a stunning recovery drive from the back of the grid to finish P9.
Esteban Ocon rounded the top 10 but fell short on pace with the rest of the grid. Williams had a terrible weekend, as Carlos Sainz had starting issues on the starting grid and his brakes overheated in the pits. Alex Albon also DNF’d after 15 laps. This is because he suffered a mechanical issue similar to the one faced in the Canadian GP.
Race Lead Battle
This race finally got a battle for the lead as the two Mclaren drivers fought for the glory. Norris handled the situation brilliantly after the safety car returned into the pits after the opening lap chaos. Piastri then had another opportunity to attack the British driver at turn 4 and getting extremely close to him from the use of the Drag Reduction System.
However, the championship leader again attacked his rival on Lap 11, but he locked up and Norris took the lead in the process. On Lap 20, Piastri had another close call with Norris as he tried to overtake him but didn’t manage. After the pit stops, the battle for the lead settled as Oscar focused on closing the gap to Norris.
Outlook
Lando Norris appears to have used the Austrian GP to get a hand on the championship trophy as he is 15 points away from Oscar Piastri. Whilst this victory seems to prove the British driver’s championship-winning capability, it remains to be seen if he can iron out his errors and convert victories against all odds. Lando Norris will be gunning for victory next time out at Silverstone, his home race, as it will help him maintain the purple patch.
