Tata Motors has announced a renewed focus on improving product quality and customer service by increasing the use of artificial intelligence, predictive diagnostics and digital engineering across its operations. The company says the initiative is aimed at preventing issues before they arise while enhancing manufacturing standards and the ownership experience.
According to Managing Director and CEO Shailesh Chandra, Tata Motors is moving towards a more proactive quality management approach rather than addressing concerns only after they occur. The strategy comes after the automaker significantly expanded its passenger vehicle portfolio and sales volumes over the past few years, a period during which it also faced criticism related to product quality and after-sales service.
The company stated that it has already achieved a nearly 60 percent reduction in early-life vehicle issues by strengthening quality checks at manufacturing plants, improving logistics processes and implementing electronic proof-of-delivery systems.
To further improve reliability, Tata Motors plans to expand the use of digital twins, hardware-in-loop and software-in-loop validation technologies. These tools allow engineers to test vehicle systems in virtual environments before physical prototypes are built, helping identify potential issues at an earlier stage of development.
The automaker also intends to use artificial intelligence alongside connected vehicle data to predict faults, optimise manufacturing processes and continuously improve product performance throughout a vehicle’s lifecycle.
In the after-sales segment, Tata Motors will introduce AI-powered diagnostic tools across its service network. These systems are expected to assist technicians in identifying faults more accurately, reducing repair times and lowering the likelihood of repeat visits for the same issue.
The company said its Total Quality Management (TQM) framework will be implemented across engineering, manufacturing, suppliers and service operations as part of its broader effort to enhance quality standards across every stage of vehicle development and customer support.
