The BMW 3-Series is the oldest car in the segment after the S60

BMW India has added a new variant to the already expansive 3-Series lineup in the country. This time, it is the 320d Edition Sport and is priced at Rs. 38.6 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The diesel powered vehicle is manufactured at BMW’s Chennai facility and witnesses a host of changes on the inside as well as outside. Exterior changes are limited to a sunroof and the use of subtle accents finished in high-gloss black. However, changes on the inside are more prominent with red highlights making their way to the cabin and even the car’s key.

The new variant is powered by a 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo diesel engine which churns out 190 HP and comes mated to an 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission. The 400 Nm of torque, delivered between 1750 – 2500 RPM, propels the beast forward to attain a top speed of 250 km/hr. Launch control function enables the car to touch the 100 km/hr mark from halt in 7.2 seconds. The 4-cylinder engine has been tuned for maximum performance without being a fuel guzzler. Claimed to deliver 22.69 kms to a litre, this sedan is high on performance as well as efficiency.

Sports seats on the inside adopt a black and red theme on the BMW 320d Edition Sport. Apart from chrome accents on the central console, BMW has provided red stitching on the steering wheel and paddle shifters. Besides taking care of entertainment through the 9-speaker setup, the 16.5 cm infotainment unit offers Bluetooth functionality and supports a reverse camera with Park Distance Control. With an intelligent lightweight construction and rear wheel drive configuration, the 320d Edition Sport also features 50:50 front and rear weight distribution. The alloy wheels come wrapped in run flat tyres which have reinforced sidewalls to suit India’s harsh road conditions.

In India, BMW is known for setting benchmarks in driving dynamics and the new 320d Edition Sport is no different. It features modern technology in the form of auto start-stop, ECO PRO mode, brake-energy regeneration and different driving modes. Also equipped with six airbags, ABS, Dynamic Stability Control, ISOFIX mounts and cornering brake control, this luxury sedan promises to be high on safety as well.

While mechanical changes would have been welcome, the BMW 320d Edition Sport is a perfect choice for those who wish to have a distinctive version from the factory itself. The 320d Edition Sport is offered in Alpine White, Black Sapphire and Mediterranean Blue and goes up against the likes of Mercedes Benz C-Class, Jaguar XE and Audi A4.
