BMW has showcased the S1000XR and the S1000RR at the 2016 Auto Expo. The automaker does not have any immediate plans to launch the XR while the RR is already on sale in India.
BMW Motorrad has been known for making adventure bikes and the S1000RR was the automaker’s first try into the superbike segment which went too well as the bike was appreciated all around the world right after its launch in 2008. The German manufacturer launched an adventure bike based on the superbike called the S1000XR at the EICMA 2015 and it became a hit in no time. The BMW stall at the 2016 Auto Expo proudly showcases both the BMW S1000XR and S1000RR, but the company has no immediate plans to launch the XR in India while the RR is already on sale.
The BMW S1000XR is an adventure-touring bike that strongly stands against the long-time ruler Ducati Multistrada. The XR is a perfect touring bike with a frame that is a bit different from the race bred sibling to provide a more comfortable seating position. The 999cc four-cylinder engine from the sports sibling is tuned to deliver 160 BHP of power at 11,000 RPM and 113 Nm of torque at 9250 RPM with a better delivery at the low and mid rev ranges.
Coming to the BMW S1000RR, the automaker’s most successful sports bike directly rivals the Kawasaki ZX-10R and the Honda CBR1000RR. The superbike gets all the hi-tech features like electronic throttle actuator, ABS and riding modes. It is powered by a 999cc, liquid-cooled, four-cylinder engine which produces 198 BHP of power at 13,500 RPM and 113 Nm of torque at 10,500 RPM. The bike is currently on sale in India at Rs. 27.55 lakhs (Ex-showroom, Mumbai).
