BS6 Mahindra XUV500 Diesel AT
Automatic variants cost over Rs. 1.2 lakhs than their manual counterparts

Mahindra has launched the BS6 XUV500 AT with a starting price tag of Rs. 15.65 lakhs (ex-showroom, Pune).

The automatic variant uses a 6-speed torque converter sourced from Aisin and it is mated to the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel that produces 153 HP and 360 Nm.

Available in three variants, namely – W7, W9 and W11(O), which cost Rs. 15.65 lakhs, Rs. 17.36 lakhs and Rs. 18.88 lakhs (all prices ex-showroom, Pune), respectively.

Thus, the automatic version of the car costs Rs. 1.21 lakhs more than the respective manual variants, similar to how it was priced in BS4 guise.

It must be noted that the automatic variant was dropped from the XUV500 range when the car was upgraded to comply with BS6 emissions regulations.

Manual gearbox versions remain unchanged, although there has been a slight price revision. There are now four manual variants – W5, W7, W9 and W11(O), with prices beginning from Rs. 13.10 lakhs and going all the way up to Rs. 17.55 lakhs (all prices ex-showroom).

With the reintroduction of the automatic variant, Mahindra has tried to keep the XUV500 appeal alive until its replacement arrives next year.

Next generation Mahindra XUV500 will be even more of a step up what with the introduction of a 2.0-litre 190 HP, 380 Nm petrol motor and an oil burner that produces 180 HP.

It is expected to be very much different to the current product since the manufacturer is aiming to keep the current gen model on sale, along with its successor.
