Hero vs Honda sales compared in an information note, is Hero taking a dig at Honda?

Hero vs Honda Sales
Hero MotoCorp has managed to widen the gap from 1.36 lakh units in 2017 to 2.15 lakh units in 2018

The recent information note sent by Hero MotorCorp compares its sales with that of Honda. The release reads as follows, ‘Hero MotorCorp gains market share to expand the gap with Honda’. Recent media reports hinted at Honda closing the gap with Hero, in terms of volumes. However, now, the Splendor maker has increased its lead to more than 2.15 lakh units over the Activa maker in the first two months of this FY.

Hero MotoCorp is now recapturing its lost market share and at the end of May, its overall market share in the domestic 2-wheeler stood at 37.4%, a gain of 1% over the same period last year. Nonetheless, in the domestic motorcycle market, the company still enjoys over 50% market share. In the month of May, Hero sold a total of 7,06,365 2-wheelers, thereby, recording a growth of over 11% when compared to May 2017 sales of 6,33,884 units. The first two months of the FY, April and March too registered sales of 7 lakh plus 2-wheelers. Hero seems to be on a roll.

Coming to the new launches, the company has lined up quite a few launches in the coming months. Starting off with the Xtreme 200R and the XPulse motorcycles, it will finally make its comeback to the premium motorcycle space with the intention of grabbing a share of the pie which is currently being enjoyed by Bajaj, KTM and TVS. The 125cc scooter segment is where Hero is missing from but that too will be taken care of in the near future through the launch of the Duet 125 and the Maestro 125.

In order to prepare itself for the future demand, Hero is swiftly adding capacities. A new manufacturing plant in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh is under construction and has an installed capacity of 9.2 million units per annum.
