The Hyundai Carlino will get a front grille similar to that of the Hyundai Creta

Hyundai is the second largest car maker in India with a good number of vehicles sold every year. Its India portfolio has just one product for each and every segment. But, the company still doesn’t have a sub-4-metre compact SUV to rival the likes of the Tata Nexon and the Maruti Vitara Brezza. This will soon change with the Hyundai Carlino that has been spotted testing in India for the first time.

The Hyundai Carlino is not an all-new name as the concept car had been showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo. But the test mule seems to have gotten a major makeover to suit the mass market. The Carlino that was spotted had a full camouflage as all test mules do. But the front-grille matches the Hyundai Creta’s. It is, however, more angular with chrome touches all around. Also new are the headlights which are placed in the middle and not near the bonnet. The DRLs seem to be behind the slim black patch. Fog lamps haven’t been missed and sit at the bottom of the front bumper.

The rear of the Hyundai Carlino test mule is not as apparent as the front. The number plate is on the bumper with reverse lights surrounding it. The design of the tail lights is unclear from the images. There’s, however, a cut out below the tail lights which might indicate that some kind of design element or lights might be there. The car is expected to use the 1.2-litre petrol and diesel engines from Hyundai.

The interiors of the Hyundai Carlino haven’t been spotted yet but we expect it to be feature loaded and have a good fit and finish like all Hyundai cars. Touchscreen infotainment system, steering mounted controls and reverse parking sensors will, of course, be there as even the Hyundai Grand i10 gets it.

The Hyundai Carlino will be one of the eight new cars that the company is set to launch in India by the year 2020. SUV market in India is booming and the Carlino will help Hyundai grab a share of it if it ends up being a good product which we very well expect it to be. Launch is expected to be in mid-2019.
