Bharat NCAP will also mandate the vehicle’s front to be designed in a way that injury to pedestrians is reduced

Come March 2019 and every car manufacturer in the country will have to equip their cars with dual front airbags, speed warning alert and reverse parking assist. Automotive Industry Standard (AIS) 145 will be making these features mandatory.

This move from the Government of India is a step further to reduce road accidents and casualties. These safety features will help further reduce and avoid road accidents. The Government aims to reduce road accidents in India by 50 percent by 2020. It is said that there is 1 death every 4 minutes due to a road accident in India.

As per Road Transport and Highway Ministry, the cars in India should be equipped with the exact safety standards as globally. Bharat NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) will also be launched by the Government of India very soon and in order to score the required ratings, vehicles must have the above-mentioned features as standard.

The front airbags will keep the driver and front passenger from taking any hit from the vehicle’s dashboard and the speed alert will warn the driver in case he/she exceeds 80 km/hr and will continue to warn if the speed again exceeds 100 km/hr.

Due to the addition of these features, the price of the vehicle might shoot up by 10 percent over the current price. However, there are manufacturers who are already offering even the base variants of their vehicles with dual airbags and ABS with EBD as standard.
