Jeep 3-row SUV and a sub 4-metre SUV confirmed for the Indian market, launch by 2022.

Jeep India Plans
Jeep is also planning to double its retail footprint in India

Post the success of the Compass in India, FCA-owned Jeep is planning to drive in more SUVs to the Indian market. The Compass has had a good start in India and is currently doing well too. Of the two SUVs planned, one will be a sub-four-metre compact SUV rivaling the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon and the Ford EcoSport while the other will be a mid-size three-row SUV likely to rival the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and the Skoda Kodiaq.

FCA Group is aware of the fact that the sub 4-metre SUV segment dominates the Indian UV market and hence the company has decided to bring in its own model to grab a share of the pie. The sub-compact SUV will be slotted below the Jeep Renegade and is likely to use the platform of the new generation Fiat 500 to save costs, of course. Being a Jeep, expect this baby SUV to also be a capable off-roader.

The second SUV planned for India is a mid-size 3-row SUV that will go against the likes of the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour. Likely to be priced between Rs. 25-30 lakhs (ex-showroom), the SUV will be positioned above the Compass and is likely to be underpinned by the next generation Jeep Grand Cherokee’s platform. Both the SUVs will be launched in India by 2022 and by then, launch of the Compass facelift would be planned as well.

On the global front, two new SUVs will be launched every year by the American carmaker for the next 5 years and this will include about 4 all-electric SUVs and 10 plug-in hybrid SUVs. All these new product launches will require fresh investments and Jeep is ready to invest more at its Ranjangaon facility. The company’s CEO confirmed about their plans to increase the plant capacity by at least 1.5 times over its current capacity.
