The Z250 and ER-6n were the latest additions to Kawasaki India’s lineup

The growing Indian premium motorcycle segment has surely opened new roads for quite a few motorcycle manufacturers globally including one of the early entrants Kawasaki. With a year full of launching high performance sports bikes, the Japanese manufacturer completed its scheduled set of launches with the Z250 street-fighter and ER-6n sports bike earlier this week. On the sidelines of the launch, the company also spoke about its plans to bring new performance motorcycles across different categories in the country including cafe racers, cruisers and adventure tourers in the future.

Kawasaki’s current lineup comprises of the full-faired Ninja 300, 650, ZX-10R and ZX-14R, while the street-fighter range includes the newly launched Z250, ER-6n, Z800 and Z1000 high performance motorcycles. While the range has not been confirmed, we expect Kwackers like the Versys 1000 and 650 adventure tourer to be launched that compete with the likes of the BMW K1300R as well as the upcoming models from Moto Morini. The cruiser range on the other hand comprises of the newly launched Vulcan S, Vulcan 900 as well as the bigger Vulcan 1700 that could make it to Indian shores in the long term competing against offerings from Harley-Davidson, Triumph, Indian and the likes in the same space.

Kawasaki India’s cumulative sales during the last financial year was restricted to 250 units. However, the Indian superbike market is expected to grow by 30-40 percent on a year-on-year basis and the company plans to grow along with the same. The green automaker is also working on expanding its exclusive dealership base across the country that only deals with its superbike range. With the market opening for newer products and segments, it would be the right time for the company to cash in on the growing demand and expand its market share from the current 10 percent in the superbike space. The Kawasaki Z800 remains the brand’s most popular model in the country as of date.
