Kia India has released a new teaser hinting at its upcoming electrified product lineup. The teaser prominently features the terms “BEV” (Battery Electric Vehicle) and “HEV” (Hybrid Electric Vehicle), indicating that the company is preparing to introduce both electric and hybrid models in the Indian market.
The first expected launch is the Kia Syros EV, which has already been confirmed for a debut later this month. The electric SUV is expected to join the existing Syros lineup and could be based on the global Hyundai Inster EV platform. If that proves to be the case, it may be offered with 42 kWh and 49 kWh battery pack options, paired with electric motors producing up to 113 BHP and 147 Nm of torque. However, Kia has not officially revealed the technical specifications of the India-spec model.
The teaser also points towards the arrival of a hybrid SUV, which is widely expected to be the Kia Sorento. Recent spy images have indicated that the SUV is undergoing preparations for the Indian market. Reports suggest the Sorento could be introduced as a three-row SUV with a hybrid or plug-in hybrid powertrain.
If launched with the global plug-in hybrid setup, the Sorento would use a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine combined with an electric motor, producing a combined output of 261 BHP and 350 Nm of torque. Official specifications and powertrain options for the Indian market are yet to be confirmed.
The Sorento is expected to be positioned as Kia’s flagship SUV in India and could compete with models such as the Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron R-Line, MG Majestor and Toyota Fortuner.
Kia has not announced launch timelines or pricing for either model, and further details are expected in the coming weeks.
