If given a green flag, the MPV will be built on the same platform as the Kia Seltos.
At the global reveal of their latest Seltos SUV, Kia Motors has confirmed that the company is considering an MPV for the Indian market. Kia has been acting carefully on improving its brand image in India. The company has also been working upon promoting new models to capture the Indian market.
The proposed MPV will be based on the Seltos platform and mainly rival the Maruti Ertiga and Mahindra Marazzo. The MPV, if given a go-ahead will be positioned below Kia Carens in the global lineup. The Seltos platform will underpin the next-generation Hyundai Creta, scheduled to launch within a year. However, unlike the Creta, which will be having a 7-seater option, Kia senses that an MPV would be a more convenient option.
Kia believes that a 7-seater Seltos SUV won’t be too different than the 5-seater version and won’t bring in much volumes. Hence, an MPV can prove to be a popular product for Kia and increase the probability of the company’s success.
