For the first time in a long while, in the March 2022 small hatchback sales chart, the Maruti Alto has been pushed down to second spot by its stablemate, the S-Presso.

The tiny crossover registered sales of 7870 units, while the small hatchback found 7621 new homes. The Renault Kwid, on the other hand, was driven home by 2461 new buyers.

With the redi-GO out of contention last month, the 3 cars collectively registered sales of 17,952 units, which is a degrowth of 38 percent year-on-year (YoY).

The Datsun GO did not find any takers last month

Up next in the hatchback sales chart, it was the Wagon R that took the lead (it was the best-selling car in the nation last month after all) with sales of 24,634 units. The Maruti Swift came next with 13,623 unit sales and the Tata Punch was not far off as 10,526 units of the compact crossover were sold last month.

Hyundai’s Grand i10 NIOS came fourth in the March 2022 hatchback sales chart with sales of 9687 units, while the Maruti Celerio (6442 units) and Ignis (4002 units) were next in line.

Tata’s Tiago slithered down the field to take seventh spot with a tick over 4000 unit sales in March and the Hyundai Santro (2494 units) and the Mahindra KUV100 NXT (2 units) completed the list.

Overall, the models in the segment registered sales of 75,882 units combined, which is a solid growth of 9 percent when compared with the sales they recorded in the same period a year before.

Total sales of the cars stood at 28,138 units, down by 35 percent YoY

Finally, the Maruti Baleno leads sales in the premium hatchback segment yet again by registering sales of 14,520 units. In a distant second place came the Tata Altroz with 4727 units sales, closely followed by the Hyundai i20 (4693 units).

The updated Toyota Glanza found 2987 new homes last month, while the outgoing Volkswagen Polo did well to attract 1086 new buyers, while the Honda Jazz managed to hold on with 125 unit sales.
