VAT levied on the Maruti Ciaz SHVS diesel has been reduced by the Delhi Government to promote more eco-friendly vehicles. Prices of the Maruti Ciaz petrol remain unchanged.

2015 Maruti Ciaz Test Drive Review
The VAT levied on the Ciaz in Delhi has been reduced from 12.5 percent to 5 percent

The present decade has seen a paradigm shift in Maruti’s market strategy as the company has started to focus on premium products which cost more than a million rupees rather than just mass market products. This is evident by the recent major steps taken by the company such as the introduction of mid-size Ciaz sedan, the NEXA line of dealerships and introduction of new age technologies such as the SHVS mild hybrid systems.

Out of these, the SHVS Micro-Hybrid system is an advantage which is constantly helping Maruti Suzuki reap benefits of the latest government push towards eco-friendly propulsion systems, such as various forms of exemptions and the recently announced VAT reduction for the Ciaz SHVS diesel in Delhi.

Maruti has decided to cut the ex-showroom price of all diesel variants of its Ciaz mid-size sedan by upto Rs. 69,000/- in Delhi. The decision was taken by the company because of the reduction in VAT in Delhi on hybrid cars from 12.5 percent earlier to 5 percent. However, the prices of petrol engined Ciaz have not changed. The same SHVS system is also used in the Maruti Ertiga diesel which has also benefitted by the situation and has undergone a price cut.

The Maruti Ciaz SHVS is powered by the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine capable of producing 90 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque, which is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. The car has the fuel economy of 28 km/l as tested by ARAI. The magic feature of the car – the Smart Hybrid Vehicle System (SHVS) is actually an intelligent system which combines integrated starter generator, brake energy recovery system and an auto start-stop system to increase fuel efficiency. This energy is then stored in a battery pack and later the system combines it with the power from the engine to help the vehicle during acceleration.

The SHVS system has been the most potent weapon in the Ciaz’s arsenal for its competition with the current market leader Honda City. The Micro-Hybrid system gives the sedan everything an Indian customer desires such as a high fuel economy number and somewhat lesser emissions. The latest round of price reduction is expected to start a price war in the segment.
