The upcoming Maruti Suzuki SUV codenamed YTB has been, reportedly, spied testing again

Maruti Suzuki is developing its next SUV codenamed YTB and a test mule of, reportedly, the same has been spied again on our roads. It’s expected to further increase the Indo-Japanese maker’s SUV count against rivals like Hyundai and Tata.

With design inspired from Maruti Suzuki’s Futuro e concept, the YTB could either be built on the same Heartect platform as the 2022 facelifted Baleno or share the platform with a Toyota. But, expect a jacked up body with bigger wheels for a typical SUV look.

From the spy shot, what has been confirmed is that the silhouette of the Futuro e has been nearly maintained. The rear sports the same coupe stance as the concept car and gets a prominent ducktail crease on the tail gate.

Though the rear is heavily camouflaged, the ducktail crease is likely to feature connected LED tail lamps like the Yaris Cross. It could also be a rebadged version of the popular international Toyota. But, nothing has been confirmed yet.

The sloping roof ends in a large sloping rear spoiler that also doubles up as a tailgate window shade, a setup seen on the Yaris Cross. The rear bumper looks bulgy and protrudes out from the tailgate.

The tires are broad and look like 215 section units like the Brezza and should be at least 16-inchers. The coupe stance at the rear is complemented by a large shark-fin antenna. There’s a rear wiper for the small glass area.

The upcoming SUV will mostly share its powertrains with the other SUVs from the company’s stable. It could get the K15C engine on the top-end models that belts out over 100 horses and 136 Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter autobox.

However, for an aggressive entry-price, the base variants might get the same powertrains as the current Baleno. As far as launch timeline goes, expect a reveal followed by launch during the middle of 2023. It will be reportedly manufactured at Suzuki’s Gujarat plant.
