The manufacturer of the upcoming Hector is planning to rapidly expand its product portfolio in India. The Hector will be followed by a quick launch of the eZS electric SUV this year. MG is also set to launch the Maxus D90 in India before Diwali 2020.

The Maxus D90 is underpinned by a light truck platform and features a ponderous SUV construction. The front fascia is dominated by a massive front cowl, with adaptive LED headlamps and the MG logo right in the centre of an octagonal grille. The SUV sits on massive dual-tone alloys that are available in sizes ranging from 17-inches to 21-inches.

The 7-seater SUV from MG measures 5005 mm in length, 1932 mm in width, 1875 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2950 mm. These huge dimensions translate into bigger cabin space. The China-spec D90 gets cooled and heated seats, 3-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, 8-inch digital instrument cluster, 12.3-inch infotainment system and a 360-degree camera. The India-spec Maxus D90 is expected to come with 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX seat mounts and ESP.

In China, MG provides the SUV with a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that churns out 224 BHP and 360 Nm of peak torque. This engine gets 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox options. However, for India, the company is working on a diesel engine that will appeal to the Indian masses. The car is expected to come with 4WD and a low-range transfer case for off-road duties.

The MG Maxus D90 comes with seven driving modes, automatic, economy, motion, snow, sand, mud and rock, making it a capable off-roader. Also, the 210 mm of ground clearance is a blessing for off-road surfaces. The top-spec variant of the D90 is expected to be priced around Rs. 30-35 lakhs mark, similar to the pricing in the Australian market. Upon launch, the Maxus D90 will compete against the Ford Endeavour, Mahindra Alturas G4 and Toyota Fortuner.
