The Indian automaker plans to target the niche segment with new Jawa and BSA bikes

Back in October 2016, Classic Legends company (a subsidiary of Mahindra) acquired the BSA company for approximately Rs. 28 crores. Mahindra, in turn, owns a 60 percent stake in Classic Legends company. The automaker has now confirmed the development of a new BSA bike via a tweet. The company’s chairman, Anand Mahindra has tweeted on the special occasion of Christmas with a picture of an old BSA bike being ridden by Santa Claus.

The new BSA bike will sit in the premium bike segment and is expected to increase the brand’s foothold in that space. Talking about premium bikes, Mahindra currently only sells the Mojo. If we were to go by the tweet, the new BSA bike will have a classic design with modern underpinnings.

The BSA bikes will also reportedly be sold in the US and European markets as well. India launch of Jawa bikes (Mahindra can’t use BSA in India) too has been planned by March 2019. The new bikes will be manufactured at the company’s Pithampur facility in Madhya Pradesh and will be sold via a separate dealer network.

Earlier this year, Mahindra revealed that an electric scooter based on the Gusto is in the works. The company is reportedly considering to bring the GenZe electric two-wheeler brand into the country. A low-cost variant of the Mojo (with single exhaust and telescopic front forks) had been spied earlier. Mahindra is yet to confirm the launch timeline of the bike.
