Tata Motors recently confirmed that 2 new SUVs will be launched in FY 2018-19. Among the 2 SUVs, one will be a 5-seater SUV targeting the Hyundai Creta and the other one a 7-seater SUV rivaling the Jeep Compass.

Codenamed Q501 and Q502, both these SUVs will underpin the L550 platform which is the same platform that the Land Rover Discovery Sport is based on. However, the automaker has stated that both these SUVs will be different in terms of look, feel and will come powered by a different set of engines too.

Tata will plonk the 2.0-litre MultiJet II diesel engine on both these SUVs but will be tuned differently. The 5-seater SUV will have a power output of 140 HP while the 7-seater will have 170 horses doing duty under the hood. Incidentally, this is the same engine that powers the Jeep Compass also.

Tata has started the development work on both these SUVs for over 2 years now, and the Q501 has been spotted multiple times with a Land Rover Discovery Sport body. However, styling on the Q501 will be unique to Tata. The 5-seater seater SUV will be positioned above the Nexon while the 7-seater vehicle will be the replacement for the Safari Storme.
